Metrotvnews.com, Damaskus: Indonesian Embassy in Damascus is still operational, when other countries shut down their operations in Syria. The action is considered as a support from Indonesia to Syrian people.

The idea was mentioned in a meeting between the wife of Indonesian Ambassador to Syria, Rosa Triana Harjanto, with the Syrian First Lady, Asmaa al-Assad, at the First Lady's Office in Qasiyoun, Damascus, on Saturday July 4, 2015.

Rosa conveyed that Indonesia will continue to support the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Syria. Therefore, Indonesia will maintain its embassy and ambassador in Damascus despite the current warfare and crisis.

"Good friend will not leave a friend in need," Rosa quoted the words of Ambassador Djoko Harjanto, in a written statement from Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by Metrotvnews.com, Wednesday (7/8/2015).

In response, Syrian First Lady Asmaa al-Assad conveyed that she has not met a wife of an ambassador in Damascus for quite some time. It is the reason why Asmaa al-Assad highly appreciated the support and political stance of Indonesia on the Syrian conflict, especially with the presence of ambassador's wife in the accredited nation.

"Syria's destruction was caused by an extremists not representing the values of Islam. Islam taught tolerance values to all human beings, not only to muslims," Asmaa al-Assad reasserted.

Since 2011, Syria has been experiencing political crisis, which led to armed rebellion in almost all of its territories. Not only the nationalist opposition, President Bashar al-Assad is also facing against cross-national armed groups, where their members flow in from at least 80 countries such as ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra, Ahrar al-Sham and many others.

The one-hour meeting was concluded with hopes that Syria will be safer and better, thus making Indonesian Ambassador, staffs and all Indonesians to freely travel and visit tourism spots like Aleppo, Homs, Palmyra and other exotic spots in Syria.

Rosa Harjanto also expected that in the future, Asmaa al-Assad will have the chance to visit Indonesia, which is filled with an abundant variety of cultures. (Eps)
