Strengthening Economic Relation, JK Welcomes Next APEC Summit in Papua New Guinea

Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: In between the APEC Summit 2015 in Manila, Vice President (VP) Jusuf Kalla held a bilateral meeting with  Papua New Guinea (PNG) Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, on Wednesday (11/18/2015)
 
VP Kalla also conveyed Indonesia's support to PNG, which will become the Chairman and host of APEC Summit in 2018.

He conveyed Indonesia's readiness in providing support on the development of facilities related to the establishment of APEC Meeting. "I recommend both parties to conduct routine consultation related to the initiatives of policies and other issues related to the chairmanship of PNG in APEC 2018," mentioned the Indonesian VP.

In the meeting, both leaders also agree to increase the economic cooperation. As the closest neighboring country with direct borders, both leaders agreed to strengthen the border trade cooperation.

The measure, he thinks will increase the development and welfare within the Indonesian borderline regions.

Vice President also supported the continuation of the participation on PNG business delegation in the Indonesian Trade Expo, as well as other trading exhibitions in Indonesia.

As information, the trade value of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea in 2014 was as much as US$206.68 million, with a surplus of US$111.55 million for Indonesia.
