Automotive Industry Targeted to Grow 5% in 2016
Illustration (Photo:MTVN/Ahmad Garuda), Jakarta: The Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) has targeted a growth of motor vehicle industry up to five percent next year.
Chairman of Gaikindo, Jongkie Sugiarto predicted the low multipurpose vehicle (low-MPV) and low cost green car(LCGC) will be sold heavily next year. It is because the majority of Indonesians are still interested in vehicles ranging below Rp200 million.
"The purchasing power of Indonesia is still under Rp200 million," mentioned Jongkie at Ritz Carlton Pacific Place, Jakarta, Thursday evening, December 10.
But as far as he observed, the use of LCGC is rare in Jakarta. He thinks that the use of LCGC is more often seen in the outskirts of the capital.
Therefore, he concluded that the purchasing power of Jakarta citizens against the LCGC vehicles are lower than those on the outskirts, despite a statement recently that the total purchasing power of the public is declining due to the economic slowdown.
"Jakarta's purchasing power is still below the outskirts of Jakarta itself," he explained.
