Thousands of women in Northeast Syria took to the streets on Monday (26/9/2022) over the death of Mahsa Amini (22) Iranian Kurdish woman when she was detained by Iran's morality police.
In the majority Kurdish town of qamishli in Syria, thousands of women attended a rally against morality laws in Iran. Women cut their own hair in protest and burned their scarves.
Mahsa Amini died earlier in September, after being arrested by morality police for an allegedly loose headscarf. Amini's death has ignited protests from thousands around Iran and the world.
The Iranian police said, Amini died of a heart attack and was not mistreated but her family has cast doubt on that account.
